PURSUE
It’s hard to think of three more different outdoor activities than skiing, bikepacking, and kayaking. Each takes place in wildly different environments, requires discipline-specific specialist equipment – from ice axes to buoyancy aids – and even when there are crossovers in kit (waterproofs, sunglasses, drybags), it’s unlikely that there’s a do-it-all choice that is at home in all three.
That was until the launch of the Instinct® 2. Garmin’s new adventure smartwatch can hold its own, regardless of the terrain, and is able to track, guide and recap a seemingly endless number of activities – from the everyday to the extreme.
Discover how it had a transformative impact on three very different expeditions.

TRACK IT ALL
The Instinct® 2 is the ultimate watch for your snowsport adventures. Skiing or snowboarding, alpine or backcountry, the smartwatch will log it all. Fields like elevation, max speed and average speed can be displayed mid-activity, while there’s an auto-pause function that stops the recording when your do – preventing any lift journeys or après sessions getting tracked and skewing your statistics.

MORE THAN A ONE-ACTIVITY WATCH
Even if you’re a fully fledged seasonaire, there will be months where you won’t be hitting the snow every day. The Instinct® 2 is made for these moments too, combining all the features you’d expect from an everyday smartwatch – text and email notifications, heart-rate data, sleep monitoring, contactless payments (via Garmin Pay) – into a single, adventure-ready package.

Never get lost
Bikepacking involves long sessions in the saddle, day after day. It’s therefore important not to stray far from your route – any missed turnings and re-routes can add unnecessary miles and meters of elevation on a heavy, fully-loaded rig. The Instinct® 2 can follow a pre-programmed course and lets you know when you need to make a turn well in advance, keeping you on track throughout your adventure.
Improve your all-round fitness
Whether you lean towards endurance or strength-based sports, it’s good to have an understanding of your body’s cardiovascular capacity and recovery rates. The Instinct® 2 constantly analysis numerous metrics (heart rate variability, stress, activity data) to tell you how ready you are to train, and will even suggest a daily workout that can improve your overall fitness.

Designed to be durable
The open water is an unforgiving place. The exposed and hands-on nature of kayaking means a watch is in the firing line for salt and fresh water, gale-force winds and the odd dip if you encounter rapids. The Instinct® 2 is built to survive any situation. A scratch-proof screen and military-grade shell make it a rugged workhorse, while a waterproof rating to 10 ATM protects it from any unplanned overboard adventures*.
Out and Back
Kayaking adventures can either be A to B or round trips. While you can just follow the current in the former, the latter will require you to navigate back to your start. Thanks to the TracBack feature – where you’ll get a breadcrumb of the path already travelled – you can explore unknown streams and estuaries safe in the knowledge you won’t get stuck.
